MIDI Effect Routing
Overview
Rift is a MIDI effect, which means that some of its features will respond to MIDI notes you send to it. The process for doing this is different for each DAW. Please refer to your DAW’s manual for more information.
Here is a list of parameters that react to MIDI and how to use them. For more details about what a parameter does, please reference its section in the manual.
Feedback Frequency. Set the Frequency Range to MIDI. Now Frequency transposes the incoming MIDI note in semitones.
Filter Cutoff. Set the Cutoff Range to MIDI. Now Cutoff transposes the incoming MIDI note in semitones.

LFO MIDI Retrigger
Off. Standard looping LFO with no retriggering.

Purple. Incoming MIDI notes retrigger the looping LFO.

Orange. Incoming MIDI notes retrigger the LFO as a one-shot envelope.

Curve MIDI retrigger
Off. Standard looping Curve with no retriggering.

Blue. Incoming MIDI notes retrigger the looping Curve.

Orange. Incoming MIDI notes retrigger the Curve as a one-shot envelope.

Steps for common DAWs are outlined below. For detailed instructions, consult your DAW’s manual.
Ableton Live
Insert Rift on the audio source track.

Create a MIDI track and program or play notes (clip or keyboard).

In the MIDI track’s MIDI To section, select the audio track that hosts Rift.

Activate MIDI Retrigger in the Engine view.

Play a MIDI clip or perform on your MIDI keyboard. The MIDI will now be routed through Rift and processed by your audio source.

FL Studio
Route Rift to the audio source track (e.g., the vocal or melody).

In Rift activate MIDI Retrigger in the Engine view.

Create a MIDI track and program or play notes (using a clip or keyboard).

Set the MIDI track’s output to the audio source track.

Play a MIDI clip or perform on your MIDI keyboard. The MIDI will now be routed through Rift and processed by your audio source.

Logic Pro X
Create a Software Instrument track and load Rift in the Instrument slot.

Create an Audio track and place or record the audio signal (vocal/melody) there.

In the Rift window, set the Side Chain (top-right) to the audio source track.

In Rift, activate MIDI Retrigger in the Engine view.

Play a MIDI clip or perform on your MIDI keyboard. The MIDI will now be routed through Rift and processed by your audio source.

Pro Tools
Add your audio source track in Pro Tools and insert Rift on it as an insert effect.

Create a MIDI track with the notes you want to use.

In Rift, activate MIDI Retrigger in the Engine view.

On the MIDI track’s Output selector, choose the audio source track where Rift is inserted.

Play a MIDI clip or perform on your MIDI keyboard. The MIDI will now be routed through Rift and processed by your audio source.

Bitwig Studio
On your audio source track, insert Rift as an audio effect.

Create a new Instrument track. In its OUT routing option, set the destination to your audio source track (the one with Rift on it).

Inside Rift, activate MIDI Retrigger in the Engine view.

Play a MIDI clip or perform on your MIDI keyboard. The MIDI will now be routed through Rift and processed by your audio source.

Cubase
Insert Rift on the audio track that contains your source sound.

Activate MIDI Retrigger in the Engine view.

Create a new MIDI track, record or play the notes you want to send to Rift.

Route the MIDI track’s output to the audio track hosting Rift (set the output of the MIDI track so it targets the audio track).

Play back the audio source Rift will process it and respond to the incoming MIDI notes in real time.
